Only a day after the Dizzy Magazine group chat raved about the genre of eurodance music, Electric Callboy released their brand new Metal-led take on the genre: TANZNEID.
As a kid who grew up on car trips filled with Queen of German Dance-Pop, Cascada, Scooter (also hailed from Germany), and Sweden's Basshunter, my immediate response to this track was an overwhelming yet strangely distant feeling of nostalgia. As if I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Something about the beat felt familiar and it didn't take long for me to realise that it was because they had created the new generation of eurodance.
TANZNEID (translated: Dance Envy) sounds as if Basshunter and Cascada had a baby with Electric Callboy's 2022 single, We Got The Moves. Already they have the electro-party vibes but hardstyle has well and truly joined the fray. It's clear that Daniel Haniß and Pascal Schillo are having fun with the production of the new album because you can hear some consistencies that they have carried over from the band's cover of Sum 41's Still Waiting - which first made an awesome impression on the festival circuit earlier this year.
The guitars from Daniel and Pascal are pleasantly heavy and easy to nod your head along to, whilst the bass - both of Daniel Klossek and the electronic bassline - is thumpy and jumpy (just the way we like it). Nico Sallach's clean vocals are smooth, melted marshmallow - they effortlessly stick in your head with a soft, ethereal air about them - whilst Kevin Ratajczak's heavier vocals are chunky and fun. That's the best way to describe it: pure fun. He is the perfect contrast to Nico’s vocals and continues to solidify why the two work so well together. And the drums are an essential driving force behind this brand new dance anthem that I'm sure will explode in venues across their brand new world tour.
For a band so meticulous, that strives for nothing but perfection, their choices are clearly nothing but intentional. This space-age metal dance track is an excellent entry in their discography, again showing that they can do any and every genre their own way and ace it. It's shaping up to be a truly crazy and an incredibly danceable album - I cannot wait to see what else they have in store!
If you love early 2000s euro dance tracks, this is a perfect introduction to metal. And if you're a hardcore metalhead, this will open you up to the world of euro dance.
Welcome, everyone, to TANZNEID.
