Lights, camera, action. The Dare. Belgrave Music Hall. 20th November 2024. You’re invited to read our review.

There’s something just so enticing about The Dare. From his New York drawl to his black and white demeanour, this air of mystery begs the question of what’s lying behind that sunglasses façade.

After attempting a Leeds accent the moment he ran on stage, The Dare continued with “I’m Harrison, this is some good clean fun.” Which it would’ve been had the first song not contained the lyrics “open your legs.”

There was enough flashing lights to cause an epileptic fit in absolutely anyone, the bass thundering through our bones and the crowd hyper fixated on his every move. The Dare is a natural, clearly feeling at his most comfortable on stage, even when people were throwing their bras at him.

Harrison is no stranger to a bit of raunchiness, playing songs such as Sex and Good Time, as well as reading off someone in the front row’s phone “do you want an orgy?

Now, he quite literally destroyed disco when encountering technical problems during Perfume and I Destroyed Disco, which he was not the slightest bit phased by as he waltzed over to his computer saying, “this fucking thing man, it’s all fucked up.”

“I’m gonna walk off stage and go to the green room and drink 7 or 8 more beers,” he carried on whilst his team tried to fix the disco. Dizzy Magazine cannot confirm or deny whether Harrison Patrick Smith did or did not drink the aforementioned amount of beers. But it certainly felt like an untimely encore as straight after he came back onto the stage we were catapulted into clear fan favourite You’re Invited.

Debuting new singles such as Freaky//Right and Lights, Camera, Action! it’s obvious that it’s classic The Dare. Punchy, tongue in cheek, a little bit naughty. It’s hard to understand how one man and his toys can create such an intense but reactive atmosphere. The man oozes complete and utter confidence, slinking around like a predator looking for its prey.

Feral screams could’ve been heard down the road when parts of Guess were intertwined with Bloodwork, as The Dare asked us “do you like Charli?” over the shrieks.

And if there’s one thing that gave us the entire Dare experience, it was him asking the crowd for a lighter before skinning up during Elevation. Smoking indoors in England was banned in 2007, but he’s The Dare. He can do what he likes. “You’ve gotta have a love song, even if you’re The Dare,” he stated between puffs.

Shoutout to the guy who crowd surfed, was encouraged by Harrison to stage dive but then got dragged off by security. We see you.

Ending on the song that got him here in the first place, although it doesn’t seem like it, Girls is such an inclusive song. “I like tall girls, small girls, girls with dicks...” and so on.

Harrison Patrick Smith wins the award for coolest person alive right now, and we fear that may never be taken off him. What’s a blogger to a rocker, I guess.
