Public Order aren’t exactly a fresh name on the scene, but they might be a fresh name to you. After a 2-year hiatus following their debut single making the FIFA 22 playlist, the four-piece are back and here to stay.
Public Order are Jac Dodson (guitar, vocals), David Ashraf (bass, vocals), Elis Lloyd-Jones (synth, pads) and Dan Wall (drums). Hailing from the quiet town of Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, the band have all been friends since school with Wall joining at a later date.
An eclectic mix of dance music and indie rock, the band have created a fusion of genres, leaving you waiting with bated breath as to what you might hear next.
“We started DJing at the start and making dance music and then we somehow ended up writing our own songs,” explains Dodson.
“It was like how can we do both at the same time?”
Talking about their time away from the scene, Public Order say it wasn’t really anything interesting: “I’d love to be all mysterious and stuff but it wasn’t, we were just working and doing more songs.”
One of those new tracks is their latest single HELLO, which is the first track from their EP which is “hopefully,” dropping early next year.
“I think we’re releasing the second one November time so we’re just doing a load of gigs and stuff now,” adds Dodson, with a very laid-back attitude about the band’s future. “I don’t think we’ve planned much after that, just see what happens.”
Well, if at some point in the future we get a film made about Public Order, here’s who each member thinks would play them.
“There we go then, we’ve got Timothée Chalamet (Dan), Brad Pitt in Fight Club (Elis), Lando Norris (David) and Jared Leto (Jac). It could be worse.”
Perfect in our opinion!
The Welsh music scene is absolutely thriving, and Public Order share some of their favourites.
“There’s a few good bands in Merthyr, you’ve got like Florence Black, Let Go, The Brass Bambees.”
But if you want to catch Public Order at any of their upcoming shows, they shared exactly why you should go and see them.
“They’ll have a lovely time,” starts Lloyd-Jones with Dodson adding “Don’t have to like, it would be nice if they did!”
“If you like DJs and bands, it’s the best of both worlds,” finishes Ashraf.
